| We're back! |
[Dec. 3rd, 2009|08:21 pm] |
|
After 27 hours of travel that included a missed flight and an hour long delay and a night spent sleeping on a USO couch, we are finally home. Matthew is passed out in his car seat and I am not entirely sure how I am still vertical, but I am very glad to be home. |

[Oct. 12th, 2009|02:25 am] |
I haven't spoken with Greg in over a week. Last time he was online I was asleep, and now I am extra mad at myself for not waking up because that was 6 days ago. We are far enough into the deployment that it has begun to feel like everyone has already seen their husband for R&R except for me. My facebook feed is flooded with pictures of husbands at home. I understand why Greg chose to take leave so late int eh deployment, but I really and hating it right now.
I'm so ready for this to be over. |

| Birth Control |
[Sep. 26th, 2009|03:35 am] |
I apparently get pregnant very easily, and I have zero interest in getting pregnant until at least February 2011. Greg will be home for R&R in December, so I really need to make a final decision on what method I am going soon. Obviously I am nursing, so my options are limited. The failure rate of the minipill makes me nervous. Condoms are a pain and part of the joy of being married is not having to deal with them. I have heard that your supply can take a hit with nuvaring and mirena. I was pretty much set on the idea of paragard but one of my friends who got one because she did not want to get pregnant again for a long time after her horrible "emergency" c-section will be giving birth to her second when her first is 15 months old.
What would you do? |

[Aug. 20th, 2009|11:10 pm] |
I really need to stop buying new diapers and covers because they are cute, especially small ones because Matthew is going to be moving to mediums soon, and really I wind up using prefolds and wool 90% of the time. But then I make the mistake of clicking on the for sale posts and then I wind up NEEDING something from it. Just now I found myself rationalizing that I ought to buy the covers Matty will outgrow soon becasue I can save them for another baby. I don't even want to get pregnant again yet!
Why oh why must diapers be so addictive? |

| Crib |
[Jun. 26th, 2009|01:27 am] |
|
I finally got a crib for Matthew's room. After much nagging from my mother, my aunts, and pretty much every relative over 40 who heard I did not have one, I caved. I only got it because it was free, and I found a free mattress for it. I already had crib sheets and a crib dust ruffle inherited from Chastity and I picked up a bumper at the airmen's attic, so I didn't spend any money on it. The mattress is in good shape. If I find an inexpensive toddler bed or convertible crib I will use it for that. The crib however, is from 1988 and the pieces connect with plastic, which has become brittle and snapped in places over the past 21 years. There is no way in hell I will actually let Matthew stay in it, but I can honestly say I have one and it is kind of cute. Hopefully this will get them off my back. |

| I am not okay with moose! |
[May. 12th, 2009|03:02 am] |
|
I've been worried about Brutus getting into trouble with Alaskan wildlife since we lived here. I let him out to go potty about ten minutes ago and unfortunately there was a moose out back. Brutus started barking his head off, which I am sure is what everyone in the neighborhood was dying to hear at three AM. Then I saw what he was barking at and while I was relieved that it wasn't a bear or wolf I wanted him inside, so then in case the neighborhood didn't know whose fool dog was barking I started calling his name. At first I was trying to be quiet, but then the moose started kicking the fence. I got louder, and made the mistake of stepping outside. Brutus really freaked out and started jumping towards the moose. Unfortunately they were in front of the gate. The moose kicked again and knocked the gate open. Luckily Brutus is stupid and didn't notice. I was throwing stuff at him and the moose trying to distract them from each other. After taking a grapefruit to the butt the moose sauntered off a bit. I would have thrown an orange next but she was eating a clump of dandelions and the milk jug to the head got Brutus's attention. He ran in and I had a flashback to the time he got attacked by an opossum and my mom and I were throwing stuff at them and squirting the opossum to get it away from the Brutus and the yard. (BTW the opossums in Houston are pretty fierce. My sister’s cat was killed by one last week.) If that moose at my strawberries I’m going to be pissed.

It's been a week and I'm already ready for him to be home. I think I did a pretty good job staying busy this past week. I went to the gym one day but I only got thirty minutes on the treadmill in before Matthew woke up and wanted to eat, so I fed him while Dana finished her workout. COme to fnd otu it is a good thing he stopped me because after 2 weeks of no bleeding it started up again. I had my first adventure with shoveling snow. It took forever because Matthew wanted nothing to do with it so I had to have multiple shoveling sessions. On Sunday I stayed home all day and moped because it finally sunk in that Greg will not be home for a while.
Matthew is growing by leaps and bounds. Nursing still hurts, but it is getting better I guess.
Dana is going back to Wisconsin on Thursday. :(
My mom is coming on Friday. Hopefully we won't kill each other!

I've had a lot of help especially considering I thought it would be just me and the baby at first! Anybody else want to come to Alaska? |

[Jan. 2nd, 2009|07:34 pm] |
Dear Parasite Baby,
You are getting way too big to be moving so much. It hurts when you stretch your legs out and feels really weird when you flutter your hands close to my cervix. I don't want you to have to go to the NICU, but seriously, would you please come out early? I've had it with this pregnancy thing. Crying over every little thing is getting really old. So is falling asleep before ten and waking up every hour or two with leg cramps, hunger pains, or a desperate need for the potty. I am the size of a whale but I don't have any stretch marks yet and would really love to keep my unlined stomach. You already tore up my abs, so I think it is only fair that I get to keep nice skin to cover them up.
January 20th would be ideal, but hang in there until Obama is officially our president please. On the other hand, come whenever, but please make it sooner rather than later.
Thanks.
Love,
the host Mom |

| So busy! |

| [ | mood |
| | working | ] | We got the keys to our new place yesterday and have been moving in bit by bit since yesterday afternoon. I despise packing, and to add insult to injury I am SO TIRED all the time. I'm getting the feeling that the third trimester is a flashback to the first, but with more aches and pains and more trips to the potty. I wake up every three or four hours now and usually have trouble getting back to sleep because my left hip and shoulder are sore from attempting to sleep on my left side like a good pregnant lady ought to sleep. The heartburn and indigestion has been tons of fun too. I still hate my midwife and my latest fantasy involves kicking her during the Group B strep test. My last appointment was with a different provider and she was AWESOME. I wish I could switch to her, or to Dr. Ellemberger, but since the are both OBs and I am not high risk it isn't a choice. Anyway, it doesn't matter in the end since I will be stuck with whomever is on call when I give birth for the delivery. I still want a homebirth, but I want to go home more so that is where our money went.
On the upside, I have two months left and I am praying this kid decides to take after my family and come out early. Our new place is totally awesome and I can't wait to get unpacked and settled in there. I am going to California on the 18th and Houston on the 22, so the rest of the month should fly. When I get back I will be all cheesy and set up a baby room and have my cousin as a house guest. We are going to be super cheesy and work on her engagement announcements and hopefully my wedding scrapbook, which means I will have to stop sulking about the bad photography and choose some pictures to get edited and printed. Yes, I am aware I have been married for a year and still haven't printed out a single photo. My family never lets me forget. Also, one of Greg's guys is staying up here for the holidays and is going to pet sit. That will save us close to $500!
Time for more packing. I want the entire kitchen boxed up and ready to go before I go to bed! |

| | hungry | ] | ~Sleeping comfortably on my stomach and back, or any really position that doesn't require a stack of pillows. ~Being able to walk the dog without vomiting each time he goes potty. ~Running. ~Sneezing/coughing without leaking or feeling like I am going to leak. ~Not being congested. ~Regular clothes. ~Having enough energy to stay up late. ~Being able to put off eating/drinking for more than thirty seconds without feeling atrocious. ~Having control over my emotions. ~Drinking. I miss wine. ~Eating undercooked/raw food. ~No gas. ~Remembering things for more than two seconds at a time. ~Sleeping all the way through the night. ~Taking advil for my aches and pains. ~Caffeine. ~Having a flat stomach. ~Eating without dropping food all over my belly. ~Not receiving unsolicited advice by the truckload. ~Having breasts that looked relatively large for my body instead of in proportion with my massive belly. ~Not having to think about how I will get up if I sit in certain places. ~Not getting random leg cramps.
I don't know if I will even remember what "normal" feels like by the time I give birth! At least some of these things will resolve themselves next year! |

| Just a little update |
[Sep. 8th, 2008|03:38 pm] |
I'm about 18 weeks along and doing well. The only issue I'm having is that I'm not gaining weight the way I should be. Greg has been really busy with work and will miss the 20 week ultrasound. I'm trying to postpone it somehow so he can be there because he has always been excited about ultrasounds and he did not get to go to the ten week for this pregnancy and the 20 week will be my last one. Brutus is starting to get unhappy with the weather here when he has to go potty late at night or early in the morning. Dumbledore is still doing what he does best: eating, sleeping, and beating poor Brutus any time the dog gets within reach.
The big event of the week took place on Saturday in Houston. My sister was playing a soccer as usual and the thing she's been dreading for years finally happened. A girl tackled her and she completely tore her ACL and partially tore her MCL. She is out of sports for the next ten months. She is especially upset because she is a junior and this would have been her big recruiting year. She will have surgery on the ACL in a month or so when the MCL heals.
Sidenote: Brutus is having puppy dreams and is barking and moving his paws in his sleep. :) |
